The Cráic Merchants
Ross Hull (Fiddle), Dylan Cairns (Fiddle), Miguel Girão (Guitar)
Combining influences from Scotland, Wales and Portugal, The Merchants bring to you nothing less than the inexorable energy of the Glasgow Trad scene.
Based in Glasgow, Dylan is a traditional fiddler, guitarist, and hurdy-gurdy player. Along with his current projects (The Capstan Quartet and 3ManJob), he has performed across Europe with a number of acts including Dallahan, Iona Fyfe, Sketch, and his duo with Sam Mabbett (The Canny Band, The Unprepared). Dylan has seen success with competitions, winning the Musician of the Festival at Cwlwm Celtaidd, and, with Sam Mabbett, Concour des Petit Formations at Le Rencontre Internationales de Luthier et Maître Sonneurs (now Le Son Continu) and New Roots.
Ross Hull, based in Glasgow, adds a Scottish edge to the ensemble, blending expressive bowing and rhythmic drive with a deep respect for the tradition. His playing bridges the gap between old tunes and contemporary arrangements.
Miguel Girão, a Portuguese-born guitarist and bouzouki player, anchors the trio with rich harmonic textures and inventive accompaniment. His cross-cultural approach brings warmth and rhythmic vitality, weaving Iberian influences into the Celtic tapestry.
Together, they craft a sound that is both rooted and exploratory—celebrating tradition while pushing its boundaries. Whether performing ancient airs or modern compositions, the trio captivates audiences with their synergy, sensitivity, and spirited musicianship.
